My mother lives in Brick new jersey, she is currently staying with my husbands sister in another town and they have no power. She still doesn't know about the condition of her house. I was only able to speak with her for a few minutes she seemed in okay spirits. We live in virginia beach and everything is fine here we didn't even lose power.

Who (not what) is your guilty pleasure? (Controversial favorites)
by Terry inwe all have somebody we are crazy about that almost everybody can't stand.. if you mention their name your companions give you that "look" (ya know the one, like you just got caught picking your nose!).
i was thinking about this the other day.
i was truly curious if i'm mental or if everybody has a guilty pleasure list like i do.. i'm just going to assume we all do until you set me straight.. if you attach a photo and short explanation about why you like these pariahs it will be more meaningful.. .

Can longtime posters on JWN be elitist? Kind of like elders in the hall?
by trujw injust wondering.
i feel a little smugness from long time posters.
i got out as a kid 20 years ago and since i am a newbie here it feels like we are shown a little less respect.

Loss and Loneliness
by compound complex intonight's sunset is as spectacular as any i had ever viewed from the kitchen window in my former, beloved home-sweet-home.. a tiny abode it was compared to my current habitation.
no longer within a mere four wooden walls of plain aspect and diminutive scale, i now am lost in a seeming infinite architectural spread that reaches toward earth's four points, an edifice of four expansive levels that demand i walk, climb, explore every one of thousands of hidden nooks and crannies.
i am compelled to do this but find no joy in discovery.

Another oddly interesting thread
loss and loneliness as an everyday human or loss and loneliness as a stranded human without answers without reason to be.
Sometimes the everyday human finds a party favor and mistakes it for God. disappointment Oh there's another one and another and another......
The stranded human books and ideas party favors mistaken for God disappointment .....
What are we anyway? Why do we feel lonely and abandoned? Have we been trifled with? Can we live a life of distraction and will it sustain us?......

Virginia beach fared pretty well. The usual places that flood flooded, I often wonder why people even though it's beautiful live in house that floods practically every year. We didn't lose power and we stayed home watched the rain we were lucky that it didn't come ashore here. However, somebody would get it and I'm sad when I see people's lives destroyed. You can't stop it.

Pharoe Charles Taze Russell.
by unclebruce ing'day apostates,.
i was reading an article in the latest issue of atlantis rising regarding the great pyramid's missing capstone and the 1902 story of the recovery in the desert sands just 20k south of cairo, of the capstone of amenemhet iii's pyramid.. .
it's dimensions (1.85m at the base by 1.4m height) had me think of the similarly sized pyramid placed nearby charles russell's grave (under which there are rumoured to be buried many books .. similar to the way my teenage bed was crammed under with old watchtower and awake!

I kind of liked it better when Deb didn't know who he really was and it was business as usual "I'll see you on my table later". I've heard there's only one more season and the recent developments seem like a prelude to an end of the series.
